Amy Schumer and her husband Chris Fischer welcomed their first child together back in early May.

It’s easy being Gene

The couple are now doting on their sweet little boy – who they have named Gene – and are sharing plenty of updates about new parent life on Instagram.

Amy’s latest Gene-themed post gave fans a little more of an idea of what the wee guy is into, making it clear that he’s thriving and slowly waking up to the world.

“Here is our son Gene,” Amy posted alongside a photo of her cutely smirking bub.

“He likes looking around and laughing at his toy, the black and white butterfly.”

“Always down for a nap and a good cry if the poops are on the reg,” Amy continued.

At the end of her update, the popular comedian noted her thoughts were with some other families. She urged her followers to donate or volunteer with organisation Immigrant Families Together.

The non-profit provides support to immigrant families who have been separated after crossing the border from Mexico to the US.

A hard road

Amy did not have an easy time growing baby Gene. She spent her entire pregnancy struggling with the debilitating pregnancy illness hyperemesis gravidarum (HG).

The condition causes chronic vomiting at any hour of the day – not just morning sickness – and for some women (we’re looking at you Fifi Box!) it lasts the entire pregnancy. In Amy’s case, HG hung in there until Gene’s birth. She ended up hospitalised a number of times to treat her nausea and dehydration.

Once Gene arrived, Amy’s HG disappeared and sheโ€™s been embracing every non-pukey day.

She’s cavorted in her undies, raised awareness of c-section scars, had a bit of a cry, returned to the comedy circuit, spent quite a lot of time pumping breast milk โ€ฆ and shared some details on Geneโ€™s first bath.

It’s been a delight to see this cute family getting to know one another and it’s very clear that they’re enjoying this big transformation immensely.
