Duchess Meghan made a surprise appearance alongside her husband Prince Harry over the weekend, and this pop-up brought with it a little bit more news of royal baby Archie.

Up all night

Harry and Meghan attended a very special London baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox on Saturday.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the first of a two game series of the Major League Baseball London Series in support of @WeAreInvictusGames, the couple’s Instagram account explained.

Chatting to other sports fans at this milestone event, a weary Harry admitted they’d had a particularly gruelling night with seven-week-old Arch.

Apparently, Harry spoke to new mum Bianca Rainbow-Jones as her nine-month-old daughter Raphaella cried and fussed a little.

“We talked babies!” Bianca revealed, People magazine reports. “They said, ‘We’ve just left [the screaming] – we had that about an hour before we came here!’ Harry said they had a sleepless night.”

Welcome back, Meg!

Meghan’s appearance has delighted royal fans, who had – understandably – seen little of the new mum since Archie’s birth.

Of course, there was the debut of baby Archie and the much-debated appearance at Trooping The Colour to celebrate the Queen’s birthday, but apart from those she’s been happily ensconced at Frogmore Cottage, getting to know her new baby boy.

Sadly, ducking out of the limelight for maternity leave has not quelled the barrage of criticism aimed particularly at Meghan. If anything it’s inflamed it. She’s come under fire for a variety of reasons, from restyling her engagement ring, to not working hard enough, to spending millions on the renovation of the dated home they just moved into, to branching off to form an independent royal house away from Prince William and Kate.

Really, it’s not surprising that Meghan chose to appear at this event. The family’s public relations advisers must be in overdrive, looking for ways to turn the tide on this very unnecessary negative chatter about the couple.

Tonight, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the first of a two game series of the Major League Baseball #LondonSeries, in support of @WeAreInvictusGames. Tonight’s highly anticipated game between the #Yankees and #RedSox took place at London stadium, Olympic Park. The @WeAreInvictusGames, of which His Royal Highness is Founding Patron, has been selected as charity partner for the @MLB 2019 series. The Invictus Games Foundation is the international charity that oversees the development of the Invictus Games, an international adaptive multi-sport event in which wounded, injured or sick armed service personnel and veterans participate. It celebrates the power of sport in recovery and how it can help, physically or psychologically, those suffering from injuries or illness. The word ‘invictus’ means ‘unconquered’ – it embodies the fighting spirit of the competitors. As part of the partnership, the Invictus Games Foundation have a team participating in London’s #Softball60, the social softball series built for the city and targeted to introduce the sport to new audiences and demonstrate that it is an inclusive sport. On this #ArmedForcesDay, tonight’s event was also a chance for Their Royal Highnesses to shine a light on the men and women here in the UK and around the world who have sacrificed so much for their country. What a sweet surprise

For the most part, it seems to have worked as royal watchers popped up on the pair’s Instagram account to leave supportive comments.

“What a sweet surprise she was there!” one posted.

“You are both such a joy to watch,” another fan wrote. “Stay strong during this onslaught of NONSENSE in the press. No one deserves that. Fight for your union, fight for your love, fight for your family. Do your thing!!”

“Thank you so much for accompanying your husband today Meghan!” someone else commented. “I am so grateful I was able to see you, you are truly missed!”
