Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor arrived on 6 May 2019 and the little boy’s birth certificate has now been released.

It’s an official yet intimate glimpse into the Sussex family and has revealed three very interesting details about Meghan’s new life as a royal … and royal mum.

1. Not Meghan Markle!

Despite often being referred to in the press by her maiden name, Meghan is not called Meghan Markle.

Her married name is Rachel Meghan Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex.

Those referring to her as Meghan Markle are either a little behind the eight-ball or stubborn Suits fans.

2. The princess job

When she married Prince Harry, Meghan became a princess of the United Kingdom. While Meghan does not use a ‘Princess’ title – instead being ‘Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex’ – her occupation is described on Archie’s birth certificate as “Princess of the United Kingdom”. (And naturally Harry is Prince of the United Kingdom.)

It’s confusing but from what we can gather, you need to be the daughter of a sovereign to gain the Princess title, but it seems to be at the Queen (or King’s) discretion. In the case of future King, Prince William’s children George, Charlotte and Louis, the Queen passed a letter’s patent to declare them Princes and Princess.

Tradition has dictated that a princess by marriage cannot be called Princess followed by her first name, and in the case of Princess Diana it was the public that gave her that name. Princess Diana was never really her official title.

We TOLD you it was complicated. Now let’s move on to detail three.

Their Royal Highnesses exchanged vows at St George’s Chapel within the grounds of Windsor Castle on May 19th, 2018. The selected song “This Little Light of Mine” was chosen by the couple for their recessional. We hope you enjoy reliving this moment, and seeing some behind the scenes photos from this special day. A message from The Duke & Duchess: Thank you for all of the love and support from so many of you around the world. Each of you made this day even more meaningful. 3. A very posh birth choice

It turns out that Meghan gave birth at the very posh Portland Hospital. It’s in black and white on Archie’s birth certificate.

The release of his birth certificate “ended the mystery about where the baby was born after speculation that Meghan, who married Queen Elizabeth’s grandson a year ago, had planned a home birth at the couple’s residence on the Windsor Castle estate,” the ABC confirmed.

“There had been media reports the couple had made a late dash to the London hospital, because Archie was overdue, until now — though the couple have not officially disclosed any details about the birth or its location.”

The Portland Hospital is the facility of choice for the wealthy and well-to-do, with Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice born there, as well as the children of Sting, Jerry Hall, Rod Stewart, Victoria Beckham and more.

The hospital boasts high-security measures allowing whole floors of the hospital to be sealed off for VIP mums and their families. Arrival can be organised via a discreet entrance to keep the prying eyes of the press away.

Families are also able to redecorate their rooms to suit their own aesthetic – like a home away from home – and there are rooms available for nannies, baby nurses and other family members.

The hospital serves five-star cuisine but also rolls out comfort food for hungry postpartum mums. Honestly? It’s super plush!

You can catch a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Portland Hotel Hospital in the fascinating documentary 5 Star Babies. It’s a must-watch for royal fans!
