Prince Harry was just dad-shamed for the first time. Sigh.
Recently we told you about how Amy Schumer was mum-shamed for the first time, after she headed back to work a couple of weeks after her baby Gene was born. Now Prince Harry’s on the receiving end of the very same sort of criticism.
Here come the dad-shamers
Last week Harry was spotted on a commercial British Airways flight, heading from Rome back home to London. He’d been making an appearance at a charity event – the 2019 Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup.
Harry’s three-week-old baby boy Archie and wife Meghan remained at home in London while he completed this whirlwind Italian engagement (he was gone for 24 hours) and one reporter at the event suggested the Prince’s work trip was a little premature.
Speaking to Harry’s close friend (the very handsome) Nacho Figueras, the reporter asked about the trip, fishing for any tidbits about Meghan.
“Not many fathers go abroad within two weeks of the birth, any word on that from the mother?” the nosy reporter quizzed.
“That’s an assumption that you’re making,” an obviously miffed Nacho shot back, trying to maintain his composure. “I am a father of four and sometimes duty calls. This is 24 hours away from the house, I think he’s doing just fine.”
“He’s a wonderful father. Very present. I’m very impressed and he’s here for an amazing cause. So I think that’s a … I don’t see that as a problem.” You can watch the video below to see Nacho’s reply.
“He’s a wonderful father”
We loved this response to what is a very normal occurrence – parents having to (or simply choosing to) work after they have children.
While we don’t know much about Meghan and Harry’s staffing arrangements at the moment, we do know that the Duchess’s close friends Jessica Mulroney and Serena Williams have both been in London over the last week or so.
And so it begins
It’s clear that Meg’s got lots of support around her … and surely these parents can make their own decisions about work-life balance, regardless?! They shouldn’t have to justify their decisions.
Meg and Harry will never win in the eyes of some press and royal watchers. They’re either together too much, not together enough. Working too often or not enough.
It’s clear this veiled criticism is the first of many such incidents for our Harry. Sigh.
