Hilaria and Alec Baldwin just announced they are expecting their fifth child, with matching announcements posted to Instagram.

The pair are already parents to a bunch of cute kids: six-year-old Carmen, four-year-old Rafael, three-year-old Leonardo and one-year-old Romeo. Alec also has a 23-year-old daughter named Ireland with former partner Kim Basinger.

Baby number five

This big baby news was not a total surprise to Baldwin fans. Alec had recently admitted they were going for number five in an interview, but glossed over questions about whether his wife was already pregnant.

Now that she is pregnant, the couple are speaking openly about their next baby, but are still a little anxious about this pregnancy.

Hilaria suffered a miscarriage earlier this year, so it’s understandable that the pair are a little worried about this baby’s wellbeing.

Sharing the news Hilaria admitted they were super excited about this new little life, but also urged the paparazzi to leave her alone. She’s keen to see things peaceful during the early weeks of her pregnancy and doesn’t want anything jeopardising her baby’s health.

Fans of the couple were super excited that Hilaria was recovering from her miscarriage and expecting again. But not everyone thought this early reveal was a good idea.

One commenter said they “can’t understand that. If she wants to remain peacefully why does she expose her pregnancy at early stage and take the risks instead of listening to the doctor’s order? Celebrities are really strange lol.”

Fighting the paparazzi

Hilaria tackled this comment head-on, by responding directly. She explained that the only way to avoid being hounded by the press was to take control of her narrative, be open about her life and try to reduce the thirst for photos of her.

“People poke around and try to find out what is going on,” she wrote. “When you simply share what is happening, you take the story into your own hands and they tend to leave you alone more. Secrets are only interesting when they are secrets. Reports of my belly growing or my appearance changing spark rumors. That brings attention.”

“Me coming out and saying what is going on gets the news out there … then they move on to the next story. It’s been something I’ve learned over the past decade … this is one of the reasons I’m so active on social media. The news can take images for free from my page rather than paying a paparazzi to come follow me.”

Hilaria Baldwin Instagram comment

One understanding supporter commented on Hilaria’s pregnancy announcement, sharing her thoughts on the way the media stalks those in the public eye.

“Hilaria I met you at the doctors office last spring and we had a nice chat,” that woman wrote. “You asked me not to tell anyone I’d seen you and it made me so sad a person would have to ask that. Your story is your own to tell. I was deeply saddened when I learned of your loss and am so happy to hear this wonderful news! Sending wishes for a healthy pregnancy and that your wish for privacy is respected.”

“I don’t want to have to pretend to feel ok”

Hilaria is indeed steeling herself for the privacy invasion this pregnancy will bring, sadly even feeling the need to include a message to the press in her pregnancy reveal.

“It is still very early,” Hilaria wrote. “But we have learned that there is a little person inside of me.”

“The sound of this strong heart makes me so happy – especially because of the loss we experienced in the spring. We want to share this news as we are excited and don’t want to hide the pregnancy. These first few months are tough with exhaustion and nausea … and I don’t want to have to pretend that I feel ok.”

“My one request is that the media not send paparazzi to follow me or buy independent paparazzi photos, hence encouraging them. I want to remain peaceful during this very early time in my pregnancy and getting chased around by cameras is not in the doctor’s orders.”

Here’s hoping they DO stay away, but somehow we doubt it.
