Hilary Duff’s daughter Banks has just hit the five-month mark, and the mum-of-two is celebrating with an emotional Instagram update.

Hugs for mum!

Hilary has previously spoken about her birth and the fact that her wee girl hugged her just seconds after she was born. Now she’s shared the actual footage and it’s as beautiful as you’d imagine. A beaming and relieved Hilary’s in the birthing pool and her daughter reaches up and puts her arms around her mama’s neck. Swoon.

Hilary also revealed some other details about Banks’ arrival. She said that her birth team – partner Matt Koma, her mum and her sister Haylie – provided vital support as she laboured and delivered Banks … and that her eldest child seven-year-old Luca spent much of her labour playing Lego and waiting for his sister to turn up.

Banks Violet Bair arrived on the afternoon October 25 after an unexpectedly long labour, making Hilary a mum-of-two and beginning the newborn journey once again.

The highs and the lows

While it hasn’t been easy – Banks has suffered colic and been very sleepless – it has of course been delightful in parts and Hilary’s celebrating the five-month-mark and the end of that colic with some more details about the birth.

I’ve been wondering for a long time if I would ever share this video as it is extremely personal…. it was so absolutely lovely and rewarding(and shocking) that after giving birth to my baby girl we hugged …for the first time, In my mind I like to believe that she was saying good job mom. Go team go. We did it. Together. Matt provided such a safe calm strength, my mommy and sissy were there to cheer me on, and of course my birth angels to make sure all was well and big brother (downstairs deep in legos). I cannot believe this day was only 5 months ago!! It seems like B has been here with us all along. The time is already going so fast..she tried avocado yesterday! Anyway… feeling blessed for this full hectic life and all the people in it. Happy 5 months Banks (oh and thanks for quitting colic) that was a doozy ( @rebeccacoursey_photosandfilm )

“I’ve been wondering for a long time if I would ever share this video as it is extremely personal,” Hilary captioned the video she shared on Instagram.

“It was so absolutely lovely and rewarding (and shocking) that after giving birth to my baby girl we hugged … for the first time. In my mind I like to believe that she was saying ‘good job mom. Go team go. We did it. Together’.”

And it truly was a team effort, not only between this mother-daughter duo but with the other important people in her life.

“Matt provided such a safe calm strength, my mommy and sissy were there to cheer me on, and of course my birth angels to make sure all was well and big brother (downstairs deep in Legos).”

“The time is already going so fast”

As we all know the days are long and the years are short, and Hilary’s feeling this acutely as Banks begins to take those first steps toward eating solids. No doubt she’s going to be mobile in the blink of an eye too!

Happy 5 months indeed! Good job team!
