The song guaranteed to get your baby to sleep. Fast

Every parent gets a song. The song that knocks your kids completely out (asleep, I mean). You turn it on and they pipe down pretty quick. You know that sleep is on its sweet, sweet way.

The problem, of course, is that when you get that song and what the song actually is comes down to pure chance.

Pure chance

Sleep did not come easily for either of my babies but ‘our song’ came via the tinny Fisher Price bedtime lullaby that was programmed into our baby monitor.

Despite having heard this tune over a bazillion times, I don’t think it could be called a piece of actual music. But I can tell you how long it played for – exactly 45 minutes.

The same length as a baby sleep cycle.

Coincidence? Well, I don’t know, but that damn song will play forever in my mind. It’s also the one thing that served as a (bit of a catastrophic) sleep journey. So for that, I bow down to the crappy Fisher Price music.

The song that will put your child to sleep

If you’re still looking for your ‘one’ song, may we suggest Weightless, by Marconi Union.

Apparently, this song was created by a neuroscientist with the explicit purpose of getting your kids to sleep. And, it works!

According to Mindlab international, a neuromarketing agency, the eight-minute song was made in collaboration with the British Academy of Sound Therapy, and combines low pitch, calming melodies and a heartbeat-like rhythm with gentle chimes and nature sounds said to induce a trance-like state.

Gosh, I am feeling pretty sleepy just reading that actually.

So imagine what it could do to your kids?
