We’ve all been there: patting baby to sleep one minute and the next you’re being held hostage as the merest hint of hand removal will cause your bub to wake immediately.
Personally, I’ve spent many hours kneeling by the cot with one hand on my baby’s stomach, the other scrolling through social media while my legs cramp up.

Not just a rubber glove
Well, this is something you no longer have to do, thanks to very clever Gold Coast mum, Melissa Dykstra.
Placing a rubber glove on her baby’s stomach so she could have a few moments to herself, Melissa was surprised it actually worked.
“It gave me enough time for a shower and to finish my coffee while it was still hot,” she told news.com.au.
“I did sit with her and she wasn’t upset when she woke up, just looked a little confused.”
The post was shared on the Baby Hints and Tips Facebook page and has been shared almost 4,000 times.
The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive with many mums wishing they had thought of this sooner.
“Wish I had thought of doing that,” one mum commented.
Another wrote: “I’m disappointed in myself for not thinking of this.”
Taking this hack to the next level, another wise soul suggested appealing to the baby’s sense of smell for comfort.
“You could get a snap lock bag and freeze some milk and put it inside the glove so your milk scent is there could possibly help Hudson get more comfortable with others too,” she wrote.
No glove? No worries.
This lady said she used to use a shoe.
“Not gonna lie when I worked in childcare I was known to leave a shoe on a kid so they would think I was still there.”
Not everyone was happy, though, with some reminding Melissa that her bub is only going to be this little for a very short time and to forget about the housework.
But to that, we say, each to their own. Because let’s face it, depriving a mother of her coffee isn’t good for anyone.
