The highly anticipated first episode of the Star Wars live-action TV series, The Mandalorian was recently screened on Disney Plus – and for fans everywhere, the moment when a baby, who looks to be from the same species as Yoda, appears on the screen is an absolute highlight.

The Star Wars TV show

The Mandalorian produced by filmmaker Jon Favreau, who recently directed the live-action version of The Lion King, takes place five years after the Return of the Jedi. The Mandalorian, played by Pedro Pascal, is a bounty hunter and his next job is shrouded in mystery. All he knows is the bounty is 50 years old. However, when he finally locates the target, it turns out to be a super cute, big-eared infant that looks like it could be related to Yoda himself.

Is that a baby Yoda?

You can’t help but love Yoda from the original Star Wars movie, the funny little wise Jedi Master who was 900 years old with green skin, pointy ears and a backwards way of talking. And while Yoda’s species is never actually named, and the only other one of his kind is Yaddle, also known as The One Below, the new baby is quite clearly the same species as Yoda – and people couldn’t be more excited.

We don’t yet know if the two are related. The creature appears in the same beige Jedi-style cloth that was worn by Obi-Wan Kenobi, so perhaps the baby is heading down the same Jedi path. Only time will tell.

“Protect you, I will”

Fans of the show have taken to social media to express their love and devotion for this new character.

“#babyyoda just made my day. Protect you, I will. Thank you #DisneyPlus!” wrote one fan.

Another said: “Sorry Job can’t work right now, just gonna stare at baby Yoda the rest of my life.”
