Q: How do I know that my toddler is ready to start toilet training?
Learning to toilet is a process. A large body of evidence says between 19 months and 24 months is the optimal age, and modelling good positive toileting behaviour encourages children to be curious about toilet training.
If your toddler begins asking questions about the toilet or hiding when they need to poo, these are sure signs that they’re interested and it might be a good time to get started.
It’s also a good idea to check nappies for the quantity of wee in them. If there’s lots of wee, your child has learnt to hold on and this is a sign that they may be ready for toilet training.
