Buildme wooden toy kits – encouraging father & son bonding via construction play
These wooden toy kits are an Australian dad’s answer to getting children off electronic devices and back to basics with their fathers (and mothers).
Melbourne dad Darryl Thompson has combined his skills as a shipwright in the Royal Australian Navy with his graphic design experience to come up with a really clever way to engage father and son bonding time. And, of course, mums and grandparents will also love getting involved.
Buildme wooden toys kits have been designed for children to build with an adult’s help and supervision. Newly launched, there are four designs: Monster – Truck ($32), Fast – Racing Car ($42), Short – Truck ($56) and Long – Haul Truck which retails for $68.
The great thing about these kits is that children can take the lead in the construction, and will need less help the older they are. There’s a rather gorgeous system to work out how much help your child will need – for instance the Apprentice age (4-7) will need a little more guidance than the Tradie group (8-12 years).
Once constructed the toys can be personalised with paint. The kits include pre-cut pieces, pre-drilled holes, nails, screws, wheels and axles. All you need to supply is a hammer, screwdriver, glue and sandpaper.
The toys are also eco-friendly, made from sustainable Jetutong timber. And how is this for encouraging sustainability – manufacturer Father & Son has sourced old Australian manufactured machinery, restored them and now they have a new lease of life. You can purchase the kits directly from Father & Son.
