Why Kim Kardashian “got in trouble” for letting daughter North wear make-up
Six-year-old North West has always been a mini fashionista, but it turns out that her mum and dad are now reeling things back in a little.
“She’s so expressive”
North’s been a fixture on mum Kim’s Instagram account, showing off her make-up artist technique, sharing her fashion wisdom, appearing in some pretty epic magazine spreads and generally carving a pioneering path through micro style.
“My Northie girl is the ultimate fashionista!” Kim gushed in a recent post about her eldest daughter. “She comes with me to fabric stores and picks out what she likes and for our Japan trip I let her style herself. I should have let her style me too lol. She loves it. She’s having fun and I am so happy she’s so expressive.”
Speaking to E! News at her KKW x WINNIE makeup collaboration event in New York City recently, Kim says she likes to be pretty relaxed about North’s fashion and make-up choices.
“I’d let her wear — you know, she has a little red for Christmas — I’d let her wear a red lip, or I’d let her do one pop of something. I’d let her, if she’s wearing a black dress, a black lip.”
“I kind of got in trouble”
All that has changed because North’s dad – and Kim’s husband – recording artist Kanye West weighed in. It’s clear that the infamous Mr West is not keen on his eldest child looking too grown up.
“I kind of got in trouble,” mum-of-four Kim admits. “So, it’s now no more makeup. I think he had it, he changed all the rules.”
Not the first time Kanye’s shuffled the rule-book, it must be said.
To be fair, Kanye’s not the only one expressing some big feelings about North’s glow-up. Kim’s Instagram comments have been swirling with negativity about how this little girl’s being raised, with the theme of “let her be little” coming up again and again.
That’s a totally understandable sentiment aimed at a little girl who lives a pretty privileged and often sophisticated life. But she’s still a little girl, no matter what the onlookers think. She still plays with toys, loves birthday parties … and will twist anyone’s arm for a new cute pet, given the chance!
