The Duke and Duchess of Sussex rang in the new year by sharing a very gorgeous new photo of Harry and Archie, taken by the Duchess herself.

Happy New ears!

The image shows a very happy Archie and Harry snuggled up in their winter woolies, a vast lake providing a beautiful backdrop.

“Wishing you all a very Happy New Year and thanking you for your continued support! We’ve loved meeting so many of you from around the world and can’t wait to meet many more of you next year. We hope 2020 brings each of you health and continued happiness,” the royal couple posted alongside the photo which was part of a video album sharing highlights from 2019.

In the photo, baby Archie and his dad are wearing matching beanies to fend off the cold. Archie’s beats Harry’s in the cute stakes by a long shot. It’s adorned with two fuzzy pompoms and was apparently made by New Zealand social enterprise Make Give Live.

While on their New Zealand tour Meg and Harry were gifted a newborn size version of a Make Give Live pompom beanie during the couple’s tour of New Zealand back in October 2018.

Meghan apparently then ordered two more sizes in the hat when she got home. It’s not hard to see why this pompommy headgear is a particular favourite with the family.

“The hat, in the Cocobear style, retails for $33 and is made from 100 percent merino New Zealand wool and signed by the volunteer knitter,” People magazine reports. “For those wishing to knit a cap themselves, the group makes the kit available as well.”

Go snap one up for your favourite kiddo!

The new Archie and Harry photo shared on the Sussex Royal Instagram account was taken at Thanksgiving by Meghan herself.

The family are currently having some down time in Canada, where they spent not only the Thanksgiving holiday, but also Christmas with family and close friends.

Entering the climate change activism arena

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also chose the new year to share some news on Instagram.

They have publicly declared their support for definitive climate change action, announcing a new award for innovative projects which fight global warning.

Prince William and the Royal Foundation have teamed up with Sir David Attenborough to launch The Earthshot Prize in a decisive and confident move aimed at bringing climate change awareness and solutions to the forefront.

“Who is ready to lead as we make the 2020s a decade of action to repair our planet?” Kate and William’s Instagram account, Kensington Palace, asked beside a video announcement of this important new initiative.

“Introducing the @EarthshotPrize the most prestigious environment prize in history. Led by Prince William and a global alliance, The Earthshot Prize will inspire the the planet’s greatest problem solvers to solve Earth’s greatest problems: the emergencies facing our natural world.”

The Earthshot Prize

It’s probable that the Queen — who counts Attenborough as a friend and influence — and Prince Charles — who is a long time environmental awareness campaigner — have had a hand in this project too.

“We will be awarding a prestigious prize to 5 winners per year over 10 years,” The Earthshot Prize website explains.

“Through this, and the winners work following each initial challenge, we hope to be able to provide at least 50 solutions to the world’s greatest problems by 2030. An annual awards ceremony will take place in different cities across the world each year between 2021 and 2030.”
