LOL. Prince Charles seems to be thoroughly enjoying his final years as a prince before he follows in his mum’s footsteps and dons the crown. Recently, the future King has been reeling off baby name suggestions for his youngest son … and they’ve got a distinctly Australian flavour.

Name the royal baby

In this week’s episode of the public relations exercise that is Learning To Like Prince Charles, we found our hero visiting Australia House. Heartened, perhaps, by the warmer reception he’s been receiving of late (#ThanksPRs) he rose to the occasion and sprinkled his speech with some local Aussie character.

“Ladies and gentlemen, my son Harry tells me that during their recent tour of Australia, he and his wife were offered countless thoughtful suggestions for the naming of their forthcoming baby,” Charles told the assembled guests, Hello! Magazine reports.

“Just between us, I suspect that Kylie and Shane may possibly make the shortlist,” Charles – who is a paid-up and passionate Kylie Minogue fan – continued, also hat-tipping Elizabeth Hurley’s Aussie ex-boyfriend Shane Warne.

Surprisingly, other iconic monikers like Scott, Charlene, Olivia, Nicole, Kate, Hugh, Keith, Chris and Cate did not come up, but there’s still plenty of time with Meghan and Harry’s baby due to make his or her appearance around April of 2019.

It’s complicated

So what Australian-themed names was Charles not so keen on for his future grandchild Baby Sussex?

“Ladies and gentlemen I would not hold your breath for Edna or Les,” Charles continued, surprisingly name-checking Barry Humphries’ famous alter-egos Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson.

We get where you’re coming from, Charles although Edna is quite a lovely girl’s name … That said we’ve all encountered a name that we associate with someone we’re not super keen to be reminded of. We’re guessing that this says a lot about Charles and Dame Edna’s relationship status. And possibly Charles and Sir Les’s?
