Genius illustrator perfectly captures the secret life of couples

Amanda Oleander is an LA-based artist who beautifully documents everyday couple moments in her brilliant illustrations.

Behind closed doors

While Amanda’s work has popped up in The New York Mag, Seventeen, Cosmopolitan, Vanity Fair, and The Hollywood Reporter, it’s these cute couple captures that are going viral.

Speaking to Bored Panda, Amanda admitted it’s the under-the-radar and unguarded relationship moments that she finds most compelling.

“I’m enthralled by the way people behave behind closed doors, intimate moments with their significant others we never get to see,” Amanda told Bored Panda.

“Those are moments that can’t be documented because if they were, it would alter the way the person behaved. So I draw them.”

Amanda bases a lot of her work on her own relationship, and has a keen eye for the moments that bring us together.

“The simple moments”

Amanda hopes that by capturing these sweet everyday scenes in her drawings and paintings, that she can encourage us to appreciate the way we connect and care for one another a little more.

“I do wish that viewers take with them a sense of confidence and appreciation for the simple moments in life.”

And let’s face it, in this age of Instagram perfection we rarely catch a glimpse of couples in relaxed and candid mode. There’s something very bolstering about couple scenes featuring hairy legs, rogue toothpaste, droopy boobs and crumb-filled beds. It’s the sort of low-key real-life romance we’d love to see much more of.
