Pickles lovers of the world unite because Rugrats is getting a reboot and all your favourite “dumb babies” are returning to the screen!

26 new episodes

Hooray! Reptar, Phil, Lil, Chuckie, Tommy Pickles, Angelica Pickles and baby Dill Pickles are all set to earn a place in millennial offsprings. Not to mention every other character ever to appear on this beloved show.

“Viacom is bringing Rugrats back to both the big and small screens,” The Hollywood Reporter says. “The media conglomerate on Monday announced that it is reviving the children’s television series for a 26-episode greenlight at cable network Nickelodeon as well as a new live-action feature film featuring CGI characters for Paramount Players.”

Production on the new TV series is already underway with the original creators signed on as executive producers. It’s not just the brains behind the series that are coming back – all the original characters will return to screens too!

Iconic characters in brand new adventures

The original program ran for nine seasons between 1991 and 2004, racking up 174 episodes and three feature-length films.

“Rugrats is hands-down one of the most celebrated cartoons in TV history, and we are thrilled for a whole new audience to meet these iconic characters in brand-new adventures,” Viacom Media Networks and interim president at Nickelodeon Sarah Levy says.

“What was true in 1991 when the original show premiered is still true today: Kids are fascinated with the world of babies. We can’t wait for today’s kids to meet Tommy, Chuckie and pals.”

A premiere date for the TV reboot has yet to be announced, but the new Rugrats feature film is due out in 2020.

Rugrats is not the only old fave that’s destined to pop up fresh as a daisy on screen. Nickelodeon’s Double Dare, Blues Clues, Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim are all on the way back too.
