Performer and broadcaster Em Rusciano has shared some lovely news after a particularly challenging couple of years.

Content note: This article discusses miscarriage

“I’m totally pregnant”

Em’s just revealed she’s expecting a baby BOY, uploading a very cute side-by-side of herself and a similarly leotard-ed up Little Miss Sunshine character, Olive Hoover.

Em and hubby Scott Barrow have been together for 19 years, and are already parents to two daughters – Marchella and Odette. Em said she’s “so happy” her “heart may bust” at the thought of a wee baby joining their brood.

“It’s gonna take more than a superfreak strip routine and a Kombi van to get me out of this one,” Em posted on Instagram. “Jokes guys … I’m totally pregnant and so happy my heart may burst in my chest at any moment.”

It’s gonna take more than a superfreak strip routine and a Kombi van to get me out of this one.. Jokes guys.. I’m totally pregnant and so happy my heart may burst in my chest at any moment. Although I’m not so much little miss sunshine as little miss teary, bloated, nauseous yet ravenously hungry. Let me tell you it’s a different ball game doing this at 39 to 21.. It’s a good thing that the stretch marks are in place and ready to go! #geriatricpregnancy #stretchypants #nippleslikefighterpilotsthumbs

“Little Miss Teary”

Em said she’s starving, emotional, puffy and pre-loaded for this big and brilliant life change at 39.

“I’m not so much Little Miss Sunshine as Little Miss Teary, Bloated, Nauseous yet Ravenously Hungry. Let me tell you it’s a different ball game doing this at 39 to 21 … It’s a good thing that the stretch marks are in place and ready to go! #geriatricpregnancy #stretchypants #nippleslikefighterpilotsthumbs”

She notes it’s a relief to let the cat out of the bag, see the back of her morning sickness – and stop sucking her stomach in!

Last year Em revealed she was grieving the loss of a baby – she and Scotty named the little boy Ray – and paid tribute to other women who had been forced to come to term with similar losses.

“To the Mothers who have gone through this kind of loss and found a way out of it, I’m in awe of you,” she wrote at the time. “I’m not sure I’m built to withstand this kind of heartbreak, I’m not sure any Mother is.”

“Post-loss joy”

Em’s fans were brimming with excitement and keen to share their own experiences of life after loss and “geriatric” pregnancies.

“Fantastic news!!! I was a geriatric high risk prego Mumma; tough gig, but terrific end result. Congratulations.” one posted.

“That post-loss joy is so all consuming AND gut wrenching & nerve wracking at the same time, it can take your breath away… Embrace it and enjoy it, Lady xo (oh … and eat allll the chocolate!)” another advised.

“Wishing you a fabulous pregnancy. My rainbow baby is now 3 months old after a miscarriage early last year too, she’s been such an amazing light since she took her first breath,” one mum wrote.

A huge congratulations to Em, Scotty, Marchella and Odette!
