Every birth is incredible, but this mum’s minivan self-delivery takes the cake

Twitter user The Finesser somehow managed to capture footage of his wife labouring – and ultimately giving birth – in the front seat of their vehicle as he drove her to hospital.

Content note: This article shows some nudity and the (quite noisy) birth of a baby.

“Can you wait like two minutes?”

Several of the couple’s other children were strapped into the back of the car, as their mum navigated the final stages of labour and caught her very keen to arrive newborn baby as they hurtled along the road.

“So yesterday my wife deliver our 5th child in the passenger seat of our car. Still shook!” The Finesser – who heads up his own clothing brand – posted.

The video shows his wife screaming her gosh-darned head off, as one is wont to do when an entire human is departing your nether regions and your bare butt is exposed to passing motorists.

“Can you wait like two minutes?” this expectant gent pleads juggling roles of driver, birth film director, birth coach and dad.

“Help me! What do I do?” the labouring mum cries.

“Hold on. Hold on … Coming out? Wait, wait,” dad pleads again, followed by “ohhhh! She had the baby. Oh my gosh. Oh my goodness. We just delivered a baby in the car. I can’t believe that just happened.”

This incredible woman made it all look pretty easy, to be honest, her baby appearing to slide right out into her waiting arms.

“I feel like I’m dreaming”

Once safely snuggled together, this fifth-time mum cannot stop smiling with joy and relief. The tiny newborn squawks as his mum kneels awkwardly in the front seat, undies down to her knees and umbilical cord flopping about.

“That’s crazy isn’t it guys? We just saw a baby born!” the dad-once-again says to his other children who are quietly sitting in the back seat looking a combination of shell-shocked and delighted.

His wife, panting and out of breath, mumbles “I feel like I’m dreaming … Will you put my dress around her?”

Wow. One of the couple’s children was so unsure about this whole sibling-birth-in-a-van experience they’ve been turned into a meme. (Scroll down for those.) Others on Twitter were unsure about the wisdom of driving while filming, but what’s done is pretty much done.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” So we took our first family photo yesterday.. It went just as planned, obviously! Our daughter got out of school at 3 Hubby helped bring in groceries at 3:30 We woke the boys up and threw clothes on them at 3:35 Mommy put some makeup on and made it look like she brushed her hair at 3:40 Phone started ringing at 3:45 Together we gathered ourselves and the kids, and sat in front of the makeshift camera set up, and patiently waited for the first of many interviews to begin! (And it went great) then we quickly set the timer for 10 seconds and took this photo. The first complete family photo. Seriously, how perfect is this? And we got 7 people ready in under 45 minutes! I’m counting my blessings just looking at all the things that are so right with this photo.. I’m in love with how imperfect it is.. Life is crazy, and we can’t stop the time from getting away from us.. The only thing we can stop is ourselves. We can stop and snap a photo without a posting it right away We can stop and kiss someone without needing anything else We can stop and thank God… even if we don’t know what we’re thanking him for, because life is not going as planned, we can stop.. we can stop and find something to be thankful for ❤️

“It was crazy”

On Instagram, this elated mum shared a little more about this amazing birth, admitting that she wouldn’t have had it any other way.

“There was something beyond special, about getting to deliver my own baby,” she wrote. “No doctors or nurses, no lights, or busy people, no one interrupting a moment that should be the most special moments for families as they bring life into the world. The pain was there, but the joy and peace that followed in those minutes we got to spend alone with our sweet girl was more rewarding then anything I could have asked for. ”

“People are shocked and often apologize that I didn’t make it to the hospital. They don’t understand that I just experienced something unrivaled to anything I could have imagined. I witnessed my body take over and a baby be born into my hands. My body is not swollen, and I have no tears. I had my husband and children around me, and for 5 minutes, we embraced everything that happened without any interruption … It was crazy. But it was amazing.”

Congratulations to this family on their brand new baby girl. Brilliant job, mum!
