Bel and Rory Sloane welcome new baby, one year after their son was stillborn

AFL favourite Rory Sloane and his wife Belinda have welcomed a brand new baby boy, a little over a year after they lost their first child Leo to stillbirth.

A rainbow baby

The couple shared their gorgeous news on Instagram, and it’s clear they’re absolutely over the moon about this new little life.

Newborn Sonny Leo Sloane arrived on Monday, a brother for the pair’s first son Leo who was tragically stillborn at 34 weeks.

Sonny’s middle name is a tribute to the couple’s first baby, a way to honour his memory and include him in his little brother’s life.

“Sonny Leo Sloane. Welcome to this world my little man,” Rory posted on Instagram, sharing three photos of his tiny boy.

“Sonny Leo Sloane. Welcome to the world. 16.09.19,” was Belinda’s sweet birth announcement message.

Sonny’s middle name is not the only way Rory and Bel have paid tribute to the baby they lost. They also helped Red Nose launch Lion Warrior, a nationwide stillbirth awareness and research campaign, in remembrance of their son.

“Best kept secret ever!”

Followers of this lovely couple were understandably delighted by this news, and some were super surprised as this pregnancy was kept quite low key.

“Wow! That was a well kept secret!! CONGRATULATIONS,” one follower posted.

“Best kept secret ever! Congratulations to you both,” another fan wrote.

“Eekkkk this is amazing!! How did u pull off such a surprise?! the cutest little brother to Leo,” someone else gushed.

“I don’t even know you”

Many fans had followed Rory and Bel’s journey since their first pregnancy and felt incredibly connected to the couple, despite not knowing them.

“This is the happiest I’ve ever been for total strangers. Congratulations and enjoy this wonderful experience and taking your little man home,” one commented.

“Congratulations @bel_sloane and @rorysloane on the birth of your rainbow baby,” another wrote. “Leo is now a big brother. We also had a rainbow baby about 7 weeks ago. My wife and I have felt connected to the two of you as both our paths have taken a very similar road. We are over the moon for the two of you. Sending lots of love to the four of you.”

“Oh my goodness,” someone else posted on Instagram. “That just brought a tear to my eye.. which is ridiculous because I don’t even know you.. But what an absolutely gorgeous little one. I am so happy for you both!!”

Huge congratulations to this gorgeous family.
