In the latest instalment of Interesting Deep-Dives By Marketing-Savvy Companies, a flower business has had a red hot crack at predicting the baby names that will be top of the pops next year.

The best names for 2020 babies

Bloom & Wild has “looked at the percentage increases of certain names over the past decade using the Office for National Statistic’s baby name data,” MetroUK reports, noting that celebrity-inspired baby names are leading the charge.

Bloom & Wild say it’s not only celebrity names that are influencing what parents are naming their bubs. There’s lots of nods to TV and film characters and flowers among the 2020 winners.

“Expect to see lots of newborns named Eve, Billie, Archie, Edward, Meghan, Ariana and Ivy in the coming year,” they say.

“Floral names are back in vogue for girls – with Ivy and Willow appearing in the botanical-inspired list of names.”

Our favourite smalls screen heroes and villains are making their mark.

Peaky Blinders and Game of Thrones inspired the top girls’ and boys’ names, showing how TV continues to encapsulate the minds of prospective parents,” Bloom & Wild say on their website. “Baby name inspiration is also being drawn from celebrities such as Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams.”

Other names on the 2020 popularity list:

Archie – inspired by the newest royal baby, Archie Harrison.

Eve – with parents taking inspiration from BBC hit Killing Eve.

Meghan – nicked from new mum the Duchess of Sussex.

Billie – thanks to pop phenomenon Billie Eilish.

Ariana – inspired by another pop princess, Ariana Grandé.
