In news that will take 90’s kids on a trip down memory lane, Tamagotchis will be available in Australia again very soon.

JB HI-FI announced they are currently taking pre-orders for the much-loved toy, which was previously available in 2018 but completely sold out.

“Can you tell we’re feeling particularly nostalgic this week? Revisit the ’90s with the 2018 release of the Original Tamagotchi, the original virtual reality pet. Available in classic and new styles! Pre-order online now,” says the JB HI-FI Facebook page.

Set to hit shelves in July the virtual pet, which was initially released by Bandai in Japan in 1996, will set you back $34.

The re-release has been met with a lot of excitement online.

“These things are so annoying and needy, but I love them. I haven’t had a Tamagotchi since 1998, and I lost it in a hotel room,” one person commented.

Another added: “The only thing I cared about in year 5 was the Tamagotchi that lived on the end of a lanyard around my neck. That was my child.”

But not everyone is happy.

“34 dollars is definitely not worth it,” one person said.

“$34???? They were like $10 back in the day,” another person said questioning the price. “In fact, I think I still have my old Tamagotchi in the cupboard.”

Despite the protests, we doubt the price will stop people from snapping these up, so get in quick.
