People think Duchess Kate learned a very cute move from Princess Charlotte
We love it when the teaching moment goes from child to parent – and not the other way around. Especially when it’s a royal lesson!
Move like Charlotte
Who could forget when the adorable Princess Charlotte prompted the entire royal-watching community to chorus an admiring “awwwwww!” back when her baby brother was born in April of 2018?
Accompanied by her daddy Prince William and her big brother Prince George, Charlotte held hands and set off up the steps of St Mary’s Hospital’s Lindo Wing, turning when she reached the top to wave to the cameras and assembled onlookers.
It was this sweetly smocked and confident greeting to well-wishers that had everyone going a little bit nuts for what was then dubbed “Charlotte Wave”. She then delighted crowds by busting out her signature move a few more times at other events, perhaps spurred on by just how much everybody loved it the first time.
She gave it another whirl at Prince Harry and Meg’s wedding. And then reprised it one more time at the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.
Now it seems that her mum is taking a leaf out of the littlest princess’s book. She’s trotted out her own Duchess version of Charlotte’s over-the-shoulder hello and royal fans keen to play spot the difference.

Wave 2.0
It must be said that the difference is quite clear. Kate’s wave was very brisk and fleeting because she was headed into an important engagement. It was a serious meeting at the Foundling Museum which the Duchess has just become patron of.

“The Duchess of Cambridge, Foundling Museum Patron, visited the Museum’s ‘Bedrooms of London’ exhibition, which documents the living conditions of London’s most disadvantaged children,” Kensington palace explained.
While Kate’s version of Charlotte’s move was a sort of sped-up and more serious effort, royal fans were still keen to join the dots and note that the Duchess is a chip off the young block. So to speak.
It’s refreshing to note that people are feeling positive about Kate’s Charlotte -inspired stairs-turn-wave move. She’s previously been made fun of for what could be described as some sort of riffed-up Star Trek wave. Who knew?!
