Actor Megan Fox and her husband Brian Austin Green are parents to six-year-old Noah, five-year-old Bodhi and three-year-old Journey.
Say yes to the dress
The couple’s eldest son Noah loves to wear dresses and his mum Megan is all for it.
The mum-of-three says that after taking a bit of a break Noah’s now having fun getting dressed up again. He’s also ignoring the critics in the schoolyard.
“He had stopped wearing dresses for a while,” Megan explained on chat show The Talk, US Weekly reports.
“He just wore one two days ago to school. He came home and I was like, ‘How was it? Did any of the friends at school have anything to say?’ He was like, ‘Well, all the boys laughed when I came in, but I don’t care. I love dresses too much.'”
Megan notes that she and Brian have endeavoured to surround their son with progressive types. They’re hoping to shield him from any limiting stereotypes and let him express himself in his own way.
“I send him to a really liberal, hippie, school, but even there, here in California, he still has little boys going, ‘Boys don’t wear dresses,’ or, ‘Boys don’t wear pink.’”
“So we’re going through that now. I’m trying to teach him to be confident no matter what anyone else says,” Megan told The Talk.
“It’s his life”
While lots of people have critiqued this couple for not imposing the usual gender norms when it comes to getting dressed, the couple says that – like their son – they don’t care.
“He’s 4, and if he wants to wear it, then he wears it,” dad Brian says, US Weekly reports.
“Dresses or goggles or slippers or whatever. It’s his life. They’re not my clothes. I feel like at 4 or 5, that’s a time when he should be having fun. He’s not harming anyone wearing a dress. So if he wants to wear a dress, awesome! Good on him.”
Noah’s dresses are not the only thing the critics have taken issue with. The couple has also come under fire for having boys with long hair.
“Maybe she wishes she had girls?” one Instagrammer posted.
“Really wishing you had daughters, aren’t ya?” another mean person wrote. “The one on the right particularly looks like Shakira.”
Thankfully not everyone felt they were entitled to have a nasty crack at this family.
“Your kids are amazing and I love what you are teaching them. Ignore the trolls. Be proud,” another wrote.
