7 reasons your baby might be waking through the night
Have a baby, they said. It’ll be fun they said. Well… it often is fun, but much of the time it’s walking through darkened hallways in the dead of night to settle that adorable, upset infant you brought home!
Let’s go back to basics and run through some of the main reasons why your baby is keeping you up at night:
2. Because sleep-cycling is waking them up
Babies’ cycles of light sleep and deep sleep can range from between 30 and 50 minutes and these cycles (thankfully!) lengthen as a baby grows older. Most babies and children will wake at the end of each sleep cycle.
While some are able to settle themselves, others need help to go back to sleep. Parents of self-settlers may not even know they’ve woken, but for the rest of us, this is when we might hear our babies wake. It’s normal, but self-settling skills can help to minimise it.
