If you have ever breastfed, you’ll likely see yourself in mum’s brilliant photo

A legend of a mum has shared a relatable photo on Instagram and it’s really resonating with so many other women.

Parenting truth

Not only is it familiar to many, but it’s a perfect illustration of one of parenting’s sage truths – make sure mum is happy and baby stands a much better chance of being happy too.

Mum-of-two Katie Poirier is an obstetrician and gynaecologist certified physician’s assistant and the photos she just shared shows her holding her baby to the boob as she shovels cold leftovers into her own mouth.

BEHOLD!

Katie

“Well, if this isn’t post-partum in a nutshell… Actually, this is just motherhood. Welcome to eating your meals wherever you can get them,” she captioned the multitasking breastfeeding image, going on to highlight just how often mums put their own needs last.

“Just wanna give a shout out to the moms eating their meals on the go while driving kids to and from ALL the activities⁣. The moms like me hovered over the kitchen counter eating cold leftovers while nursing a hungry, fussy baby.”

” The teacher moms eating in a classroom while simultaneously helping a student.⁣ The health care worker moms eating hospital peanut butter and graham crackers for yet another meal.⁣ The moms too busy to find time to eat at all.⁣ And all the other moms in between.⁣”

“As I was shoveling cold pasta down my gullet, I was reminded that everyday we prioritize the needs of others over our own. That’s wonderful and just what we do as moms often without any thought.”

Well, if this isn’t post-partum in a nutshell… Actually, this is just motherhood. Welcome to eating your meals wherever you can get them. ⁣ ⁣ 🚕 Just wanna give a shout out to the moms eating their meals on the go while driving kids to and from ALL the activities⁣ ⁣ 🤱🏻 the moms like me hovered over the kitchen counter eating cold leftovers while nursing a hungry, fussy baby.⁣ ⁣ 👩🏽‍🏫 the teacher moms eating in a classroom while simultaneously helping a student.⁣ ⁣ 👩🏻‍⚕️the health care worker moms eating hospital peanut butter and graham crackers for yet another meal.⁣ ⁣ 🏃🏽‍♀️the moms too busy to find time to eat at all.⁣ ⁣ 🙍‍♀️🙍🏿‍♀️🙍🏽‍♀️🙍🏻‍♀️🙍🏾‍♀️ And all the other moms in between.⁣ ⁣ Wherever you’re eating or not eating today, I see you and you’re doing a good job.⁣ ⁣ As I was shoveling cold pasta down my gullet, I was reminded that everyday we prioritize the needs of others over our own. That’s wonderful and just what we do as moms often without any thought. The least we can do for ourselves at the end of the day is to take a minute, look in the mirror and say “I’m a good mom.” No ifs, ands or buts, just “I’m a good mom, period”.⁣ ⁣ And that’s what #TheGoodMomMovement is about. Would love for you to share about your day and mom victories using the hashtag. You can also tag me @katie.plus.coffee and @emily.the.mom.next.door so we can share your posts.⁣ ⁣ Happy Wednesday!

A realistic slice-of-life update

Katie – who is co-spearheading #TheGoodMomMovement on Instagram with her pal @emily.the.mom.next.door – pointed out the importance of taking stock each day and recognising how blinking committed we are to the job at hand.

“Wherever you’re eating or not eating today, I see you and you’re doing a good job,” she wrote.

Katie’s slice of life update was a huge hit with other parents.

“So on point!!!!! Great picture to capture the truth. Way to go mama!”

“⁣Hahaha, so this awesome. It captures the life of moms so well.”

“This photos was me!! Especially with my first who constantly nursed! A dark time for me.”

“Oh I can relate! I was the same yet it was a cold enchilada using one hand eating it like a burger at 4am.”

#YUM!

Now if you are planning to mutter something about holding babies with two hands, know THIS: Mums are more than capable of a very secure one-handed-hold, and in fact most of civilisation was built on this particular mum pro-move.

So just shoosh.
