Poor Jessica Simpson has had an incredibly difficult third pregnancy. Earlier today she took to Instagram to update fans on her health and her baby – confirming her little girl is named Birdie.

The masked mama

Last time we saw Jess she was spruiking a face mask and fans were concerned at how puffy she looked. She disappeared for a week and has just popped up to explain why.

Many of us (this writer included) thought that Jess’s next appearance would be with a baby tucked in her arms. Turns out that was not the case and she was now sporting a whole OTHER kind of face mask.

Updating fans with a photo of her wearing a germ-fighting surgical-type mask, Jess said that she’d been hospitalised and in a lot of pain with a serious dose of bronchitis.

On the mend

This bronchitis, as Jess says, has been plaguing her during her pregnancy. She’s also been dealing with swollen ankles and feet, insomnia and generally feeling uncomfortable as she gets closer to meeting her bub.

She’s now back home and on her way to being 100 percent. She reassured fans about her baby’s health too and sent love to other pregnant women who were feeling poorly.

“After a week in the hospital for bronchitis (my fourth time in 2 months), I’m finally home!” Jess told her fans.

“Coughing with Birdie has been a crazy painful journey. I am slowly getting healthier every day. Baby girl was monitored and is doing amazing!”

“I am on my way to healthy and counting down the days to see her sweet smile. Sending love and prayers to all the mothers who are going or have gone through this. OUCH!” Jess posted.

“I literally coughed him out”

Other mums who had gone through similar piped up in the comments of Jess’ post, offering sympathy and sharing their own stories.

“Had that with my second child. I literally coughed him out!” one mum wrote.

“It’s insane how much your body changes and how much less it tolerated when you’re preggers,” another commented. “I’ve got another 5 months to go and I’ve had 2 horrible sinus infections, my bulging disc has been reaggravated (cause of the rapid weight gain) and I think I’m now allergic to apples?!? But it’s all worth it in the end.”

“My last month of pregnancy … throwing up with bronchitis! I feel so bad for you!” someone else wrote.

“I had bronchitis through all my pregnancy,” another mum posted. “A month before I delivered I coughed so hard one time I ripped between my ribs It was so painful.”

Here’s hoping that Jess is feeling much better very, very soon. Poor possum.
