Halle’s surrogacy reveal has surprised lots of people – but it makes a lot of sense when you consider her pregnancy experience.

“Would have had five children”

Actor Halle Berry is mum to a five-year-old son named Marceo and an eleven-year-old daughter named Nahla.

Nahla’s dad is Canadian model Gabriel Aubry and Marceo’s dad is French actor Olivier Martinez, (who used to date our own Kylie Minogue). Halle’s no longer married to either of those gents.

The mum-of-two has just written for InStyle magazine on her experience of motherhood, revealing some interesting details about her views on parenting.

The former Bond girl says that she loved being pregnant and had she started earlier – she had her first child at 41 – she “probably would have had five children”.

In fact, she loved being pregnant so much that in hindsight she thinks it could have made a great career alternative.

“If I hadn’t been busy trying to make movies, I would have been the perfect surrogate,” she told the mag.

“All the hormones made me feel amazing. I was so alive with my purpose and my femininity. It felt like my body was doing what it was built to do.”

“Knowing that someone would always be counting on me made me a better person,” Halle says of becoming a mum noting that she’s become more focused on living her own values and achieving her goals.

Like all of us, she still finds the balance between kids and self a real juggle.

“You don’t ever balance it completely,” she told People magazine a couple of years ago. “It’s a constant struggle of a little more time there, a little more time here, and feeling a little bit guilty all the time.”

“I just keep telling all my mom friends who work that it’s okay to give ourselves a little slack sometime and not let the guilt sit on us so heavily and know that we are doing the best we can,” she added.

“You were a good mom”

Halle says after 10 years as a parent, she’s now reflecting on how her children might look back on their childhood.

“The only thing I want at the end of the day is for my children to say, ‘You weren’t perfect, you didn’t do everything right, but you were a good mom.'”

As her youngest starts kindergarten, Halle says it feels like she’s entering a whole other phase of parenthood.

“I feel like I can get back into my life, and that’s important,” she told InStyle.

She’s got a firm eye on the future, realising that the years race by and that her role is to raise independent and strong young adults.

“One day they’re going to grow up, and I don’t want to be the mom who’s crying because her kids left. I want to be the mom who says, ‘Yes, girl, go fly. Go do you, do your life.'”
