Kate Hudson on her 3 ‘baby daddies’ (and why she never badmouths them)
Back in October actor Kate Hudson and her partner Danny Fujikawa welcomed their first child together – a daughter they named Rani Rose.
Three is the magic number?
Kate’s also mum to two strapping lads. Seven-year-old Bingham is her son with Matt Bellamy and fifteen-year-old Ryder is the OG Kate baby with ex-husband Chris Robinson.
Kate’s just done a pretty extensive interview with People Magazine where she went into a little more detail about how co-parenting with three baby daddies plays out.
She said her mum Goldie Hawn shared a simple rule with her that she follows to this day – never talk badly to your child about their other parent.
“No matter what, I never heard a bad word about my father,” Kate told People, explaining that it’s a rule she’s taken to heart.
“No matter what you’re feeling and no matter what,” she reiterates. “When I see my friends talking shit about their ex-spouses in front of their kids, I get so upset because they don’t recognise how much that affects their child and how resentful their child will become of them.”

“You need to support that relationship”
Kate points out that children are little sponges and as they grow and develop, they come to their own conclusions about their parents. They don’t need to be helped along by a resentful ex, no matter what the circumstances.
“Kids are not only incredibly intelligent but eventually they can make their mind up themselves,” she said. “They will see with their own eyes whatever needs to be seen and they need to come to that on their own terms. It’s not our place to tell them how to feel about the other parents. I think that’s so important.”
“Your child wasn’t in that relationship. Your child’s in a different relationship with their father. You need to support that relationship.”
“All I care about is happy kids”
Of course, this is not easy for every family, especially where violence has been involved, but we understand exactly what Kate means and where possible it’s a brilliant idea.
When asked how the three dads in her children’s lives feel about each other, Kate said it is what it is … and it’s totally fine.
“They all get along,” the mum-of-three said. “It’s funny and we laugh about it. I never thought my life would look like that, but it is what it is.”
“All I care about is happy kids, and we all make that the priority.”
