Bride upset that pregnant bridesmaid cradled baby bump in wedding photos

Posted in Relationships.

A new bride has taken to Reddit wondering if her bridesmaid was being a bit of a show off in photos of the wedding party.

“Just pose like everyone else”

The bridesmaid’s dresses had “a flowy skirt with a fitted bust” and the bride was unhappy that her pregnant bridesmaid “Kate” – not her real name – was not going with the flow. Instead she was very obviously cradling her belly in the professional wedding shots.

The bride said she’d repeatedly asked Kate NOT to cradle her bump during the shoot.

“I noticed Kate was deliberately holding her belly so it was really obvious in the fabric of her dress (think basically every maternity shoot photo ever taken).”

“I asked her to stop holding her hands to show off her belly and to just pose like everyone else,” the bride continued. “I had to remind her a few more times before we’d finished taking the wedding party photos.”

Not a maternity shoot

This was not the end of the ‘bump holding’ drama.  The bride and groom headed off on their honeymoon, but when they returned it was apparently radio silence from Kate.

“I hadn’t heard from Kate, despite texting her, and we usually talk every couple of days. I felt she was avoiding me,” the bride writes.

Turns out she was right – and no sh*t Sherlock!

“Another of my bridesmaids confirmed that Kate is pissed at me because I was ‘trying to make her look fat, not pregnant’ during the photos,” the bride continues in her Reddit post.

“Now I’m annoyed because I paid a lot of money for a wedding photo shoot, not maternity pics. But I don’t know, am I the asshole?”

The thing about asking the internet for their opinions is that they are pretty happy to give them. Here’s how people responded to this bride’s curly q.

Pregnant bridesmaid

You’re the assh*le

Quite a lot of people thought this was a bit of a Bridezilla post …

“Honestly can’t imagine being that insecure you think a pregnant belly is going to steal your thunder. YOU DA BRIDE JUST STOP!” one Redditor posted.

“It is a natural standing position,” another commenter pointed out. “Pregnant bellies are heavy, and sometimes you just need the extra support. I am just as pregnant as OP’s friend, and if I’m standing, I’m cradling my belly to take the extra pressure off of my back.”

“There are a lot of people in these wedding shots,” someone else wrote, weighing in. “One pregnant bridesmaid way off to the left isn’t going to pull focus away from the woman in the huge white gown dead centre in the picture, you know?”

Not the assh*le

And some people decided that what the bride wanted, the bride should get …

“Those are your wedding photos, and there is absolutely no reason someone should be deliberately showing off their ‘baby bump’ to take away from the bride in a photo. If she didn’t feel comfortable in the dress, she could have opted out of being in the wedding.”

“If she wants her bridesmaids to stand on their heads they should either do it, or excuse themselves from the obligation.”

No assh*les here

Others still saw both sides and were a little torn …

“She was just trying to feel halfway decent about herself in the pictures,” one commenter posted.

“It sucks being pregnant. I agree that if you needed everyone to do the same pose, she should have followed suit, but don’t assume that she was trying to make it all about her. She was probably just trying to make it through the photoshoot without crying.”

It’s hard to know how this is even a thing, but here we are …
