This dad is getting slammed for making his wife read flashcards during labour
Oh, the internet is divided on this one!
A dad-to-be has made his partner a set of flashcards to read during labour. While some people are loving the heartwarming gesture, other’s are puking a little behind their devices.
Here’s what’s gone down.
“You are my soulmate”
The flashcards read like a book which the dad, Kendall Carver, holds up like the guy crushing on Kiera Knightly did in Love Actually.
Except it’s not Love Actually and his wife Jasmine is in labour, for two days.
Designed to motivate her during the birth and make her feel cherished, the book reminisces on their time together:
“Do you remember when we first met? Almost 10 years ago. Before the bills. Before we started our careers. We were just kids in college who took a chance on each other,” it begins
Then after a few more ‘pages’ intercepted with the word BREATHE in capitals every few flips it ends with:
“You are my best friend, soulmate, and in just a few pushes, you’ll be the most amazing mother our daughter could ever ask for.”

Husband of the year
Some have praised Kendall for the sweet gesture, dubbing him “husband of the year” and saying “This is how to man.”
Others a little more cynical are of course having a mocking field day. And this is why the internet is so entertaining some days.
Cringe!
After seeing the vid, the naysayers had some corker comments, such as:
“Just been slightly sick in my mouth.”
“He could have cleaned the whole house in the time he took to think about and make these.”
“I mean, isn’t she going through enough? Why does she now have to read endless cue cards?”
“If my husband did this while I was in labour, I would have punched him in the face. And rightly so.”
Then writer Caitlin Moran said this:
“Imagine if a woman did this while a man did something VAGUELY comparable, like ‘having the s**ts’ or ‘puking his guts out with e coli’. READ THE ROOM”
And yep.
Even the British Labour MP Jessica Philips commented on the video, admitting this would have “sent me into a rage”.
“You breathe mate,” she added.
A baby girl
Whatever side of the fence you sit on with this video, one very beautiful thing has resulted.
Kendall and Jasmine have welcomed their baby daughter and named her, Sofia Isabel Caver.
How would you have felt if your partner did this for you while in labour, though? Love or loathe it?
