Candid photos: Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s very busy weekend

Two of our very favourite royals, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, had a huge weekend of social engagements and luckily Instagram has captured it all.

Balcony shenanigans

First, they popped up on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, jostling with their parents, great-granny and gramps, uncles, aunties and cousins.

It was a much anticipated appearance for the Trooping the Colour ceremony, and as expected their baby brother Prince Louis stayed away.

Charlotte wore her usual signature look – a sweet smocked dress and a red hair bow – while George wore a button up shirt, his hair snazzily swept to the side.

It’s clear that the royal kiddos were told to at least try to keep a lid on their chatter when they stepped out onto the balcony, perhaps with a brief of behaving themselves and “looking up” to watch the planes and helicopters overhead.

It’s also clear that it’s impossible to fulfil this brief and that it’s tricky to be “good” on this famous balcony as the world watches on!

These photos (below) show Prince George being shooshed by his cousin Savannah in the very same way his aunt, Princess Beatrice, was once shooshed by her cousin, Prince Harry.

Tears and mischief

While the royal eyes were on the sky, viewers across the globe had their eyes firmly on the Fab Four – Kate, William, Meghan and Harry – and the littlest royals.

In this very brief appearance, not only was Prince George cheekily silenced by his cousin, but Princess Charlotte ended up in tears – and getting a cuddle from her mum.

It’s not clear why, but it was a relatable addition to Charlotte’s recent cute public antics. Royal preschoolers are just like regular preschoolers! Sort of!

If you click through the images below, you can see a brilliant guide detailing exactly who was on the balcony for Trooping the Colour.

A look back at this year’s Trooping the Colour in celebration of The Queen’s offical birthday. Swipe left to see who is who on the balcony. The Queen and her immediate family stand in the centre of the balcony, and then the families of Her Majesty’s four cousins fill the remaining space. These include Princess Alexandra, Prince Michael of Kent, The Duke of Kent and The Duke of Gloucester. Missing members: Prince Philip didn’t attend as he has retired from offical royal duties; Prince Edward was returning from his trip to China; Zara Phillips is in the late stages of her pregnancy; James, Viscount Severn (Sophie & Edward’s son), The Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Alexandra were missing, as well as a few others. I love how Charlotte clapped whenever the crowd below started clapping. After the national anthem plays, you can see Charlotte look to The Queen and see that she is waving to the crowd, so she copies her great-grandmother and waves too. ?Outfits: what was your favourite? • The Queen: Steward Parvin coat and Angela Kelly hat. • The Duchess of Cambridge: Bespoke Alexander McQueen dress and Juliette Botterill hat. • The Duchess of Cornwall: Bruce Oldfield coat-dress and Philip Treacy hat • The Duchess of Sussex: Bespoke Carolina Herrera dress and Philip Treacy hat. • The Countess of Wessex: Emilia Wickstead dress and Jane Taylor hat. • Lady Louise Windsor: Hobbs dress and Jane Taylor hat. • Princess Beatrice: The Fold London dress and Sally-Ann Provan hat. • Princess Eugenie: Osman dress and Bee Smith hat.

Keeping up with the Cambridges

Once Trooping the Colour was done and dusted, the next event was a family polo match and the Cambridges had it all going on:

  • Prince William was seen riding in the match and regaling the assembled spectators with princely tales.
  • A prettily frocked-up Duchess Kate revealed a new superpower, being photographed running downhill in wedges.
  • Prince George enjoyed a number of activities, including thrashing his sister in a race, playing with toy guns and handcuffs, showing off a really impressive drawing of a volcano and attempting to revive the slinky.
  • And Princess Charlotte? She did some barefoot running, wore some fetching sunnies and did a brilliant headstand!

Next up on the royal kiddo’s agenda? Prince Louis’ christening! It’s not clear yet exactly when this will be, but now that Trooping the Colour and Prince Philip’s birthday have been ticked off the list, we expect details will be imminent.

 Stay tuned!
