Kate Hudson clarifies her comments on raising her kids as “genderless”
Kate Hudson recently spoke to AOL about the way she was raising her third child – a baby girl named Rani. This week, she’s clarifying those comments as what she said earlier was a little unclear.
“Genderless”?
Kate and Danny Fujikawa welcomed Rani on 2 October last year. Kate’s also mum to 15-year-old Ryder and seven-year-old Bingham. She told AOL that having her first daughter hadn’t changed things up that much.
“[Having a daughter] doesn’t really change my approach, but there’s definitely a difference,” Kate told AOL in a conversation to discuss her Weight Watchers ambassadorship and her Fabletics activewear line.
“I think you just raise your kids individually regardless — like a genderless [approach].”
“We still don’t know what she’s going to identify as.”
Her stance on gender caused a lot of discussion online, with many applauding her for encouraging her daughter’s individuality. Others asserted that she was clearly dressing her daughter as a girl and that her statement made little sense. Still others pointed out that she already had a gender reveal, when she announced her third pregnancy.

Fake news?
While we suggested that Kate might still be working her way through her thoughts on gender, she’s now spoken further on the interview and subsequent reports, putting it down to ‘click bait’.
“Recently someone asked me something along the lines of, if having and raising a girl is different from boys,” Kate wrote in a new post on Instagram, with comments turned off to avoid further chatter.
“My response was simple. ‘Not really’. The whole click bait tactic of saying I’m raising my daughter to be ‘genderless’ is silly and frankly doesn’t even make sense.”
It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but it’s hard to know whether Kate misspoke or AOL misreported.
She doesn’t really say she was actually misquoted, but perhaps does take issue with the part of the interview that outlets chose to lead with.
In the meantime, here’s an update on adorable Rani.
What a delightful cutie!
