Guess what Prince George and Princess Charlotte call Prince Charles?
A royal expert says he’s got the lowdown on what the littlest royals call next in line to the throne Prince Charles – and because many of us can’t get enough of the royals we thought you might want to know about it too!
The usual bedlam
Recounting a recent meeting with Prince Charles, the Mail Online‘s Robert Hardman shared some insights into what home life is like for the royal family – and let this cute name detail slip.
Granted not all of them came directly from Prince Charles himself, but we’ve got withdrawals from the royal tour and are thirsty for any new details on the monarchy, so let’s go over this expert’s assertions.
It seems that a happy and loving marriage and the chaos of a growing family are helping Charles live his very best life. Which can’t be hard. Because RICH.
“I have talked to those close to him,” Mr Hardman said, “about how his life is so much more settled these days, thanks, in major part, to the Duchess of Cornwall (his second marriage will soon have outlasted his first); about the bedlam when the grandchildren descend …”

- Prince William just drove Kate and Louis to work … In a helicopter
- People think these photos prove Princess Charlotte is the Queen’s tiny twin
“Grandpa Wales”
He goes on to say George and Charlotte call Charles ” ‘Grandpa Wales’, a touching echo of the Queen’s own relationship with George V whom she called ‘Grandpa England.’”
Mr Hardman says Charles has high hopes for his children and grandchildren and “increasingly consults the Duke of Cambridge in all major family decisions; about his hopes that, while his sons have created new charity networks, one of his grandchildren — maybe George — will one day take on the stewardship of his own.”
William, Kate, Harry and Meghan are involved in a bunch of charities – you can see those here – and have launched their own mental health-focused initiative called Heads Together in a bid to raise awareness of caring for our mental health.
We can’t wait to watch George, Charlotte and Louis … and baby Sussex … grow up and find their own passion. Possibly under the watchful eye of King Charles.
Grandparents as monarchs
Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall was born at Buckingham Palace on November 14, 1948. He will turn 70 next week. By the time he becomes King of England – when the Queen steps down or sadly dies – he will have waited longer than any of his predecessors to become head of the royal family.
Prince William is next in line to the throne, after his father aka Grandpa Wales. And then wee George is next on the list, after his dad William.
It looks like mature grandparents as monarchs are the way things are headed.
Let’s do some hypotheticals …
If Charles does take the throne when the Queen dies (and it’s expected he will) – say when he’s 75 – that will leave William waiting a couple of decades to do similar. If we assume that Charles would rule until he was 95 or so, by which time William would be 61 and George would be 30.
It follows that young George will have at least a couple of decades to wait before it’s his turn on the throne. A 61-year-old King William would have plenty of pep in his step – and would possibly rule for another 30+ years. This would make young George at least 60 when he becomes King.
Phew! So interesting, non?! Happy birthday for next week, Grandpa Wales!
