Planning a road trip? 16 of Australia’s best Big Things to see on the way
I was visiting my brother in Ballina last week and we drove past The Big Prawn.
OMG. My four-year-old son and his little cousin almost lost it with dizzy excitement. “Big prawn, big prawn, big prawn!” they chanted with glee.
The Big Prawn is one of over 150 kitsch but fun ‘big things’ in Australia. Most of us are familiar with Coffs Harbour’s Big Banana, but bundle the kids into the car and you’ll discover these bizarre giant sculptures are actually all over this wide country of ours.
Kids love them and they also make a great photo op, which is why you might want to consider visiting some of them on your next road trip.
Here are some of our faves:
The Big Lobster
Found in the South Australian town of Kingston SE, The Big Lobster is known locally as ‘Larry the Lobster’. The spiny structure stands 17 metres tall.
