Planning a road trip? 16 of Australia’s best Big Things to see on the way
I was visiting my brother in Ballina last week and we drove past The Big Prawn.
OMG. My four-year-old son and his little cousin almost lost it with dizzy excitement. “Big prawn, big prawn, big prawn!” they chanted with glee.
The Big Prawn is one of over 150 kitsch but fun ‘big things’ in Australia. Most of us are familiar with Coffs Harbour’s Big Banana, but bundle the kids into the car and you’ll discover these bizarre giant sculptures are actually all over this wide country of ours.
Kids love them and they also make a great photo op, which is why you might want to consider visiting some of them on your next road trip.
Here are some of our faves:
The Big Banana
No trip to Coffs Harbour in northern NSW is complete without a visit to The Big Banana. As well as being able to pose in front of the famous icon there’s lots to do for kids, including a fun water park, putt putt golf and tobogganing.
