New mum Khloé Kardashian and partner Tristan Thompson are making sure their little girl is a water baby!

“Smiles from ear to ear”

The proof’s in the pudding, with Khloé sharing a bunch of adorable shots from the family’s swimming lesson, noting that her baby girl could not have loved her swim class more.

“Oh my gosh, True loves her swimming lessons!!!” Khloé posted on her blog. “She’s only about 5 months old and she loves to kick in the water, which is so cute. At this age, they really don’t have a fear of anything.”

“We recently did a Mommy, Daddy and Me class and it was really fun and special. We learned some tips about what to do with Baby True when we swim with her.”

True’s taking to the pool like a duck to water, grinning her way through water familiarisation activities and generally having a whole lot of fun.

“She’s … getting used to dunking under the water, which she enjoys. After each dunk, she sticks her tongue out and just smiles from ear to ear! She lovesss the water!”

True’s first swimming lesson??

Setting a great example

True’s parents are setting a brilliant example by teaching their daughter to swim – and perhaps their influence could help encourage other families to get in the water.

The stereotype that suggests most African Americans can’t/won’t swim has some of its roots in worrying statistics.

“According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, black children drown at 5.5 times the rate of other children,” Black Kids Swim founder Ebony Rosemond wrote for The Washington Post. “70 percent of African Americans lack basic swimming skills.”

Brilliant organisations like Black Kids Swim are aiming to promote swimming and water safety to African American families, keeping kids safer and maybe even creating futures sports stars in the process.

They’re also pushing for kids to have better access to swimming pools and lessons because not everyone is as lucky as True Thompson (who has a pool in her backyard and the resources to access private lessons.)
