If you’d asked us whether you could make a fortune neatly dealing with kids’ bodily fluids, our answer would have been … YESSSS!

Snot sucks!

Of course, we weren’t the genius types who came up with this amazing and much-loved snot sucking device (and other similarly brilliant products). The good folk at Fridababy did! They’re the clever clogs creatives behind the famous Fridaballs protective gear you all loved so much – and they make hatching useful and funny products look easy (when we know it’s not!)

The snot sucker was a Swedish invention, originally imported by the neighbour of US mum of two Chelsea Hirschhorn. Chelsea’s Fridababy’s current CEO and she had the foresight to buy the business from her neighbour – and turn it into a brilliant success (adding lots of other products along the way!)

Creating a parents’ must-have

Chelsea’s snot sucking $20 NoseFrida now has the market totally cornered when it comes to dealing with congested schnozzes. While others have tried to replicate the product’s success, Chelsea says, none have succeeded.

“It’s like trying to unseat Kleenex … It’s a challenge for other companies when your product is referred to by name. Parents say ‘I’m going to NoseFrida her.'”

“The idea is pretty gross,” she told Forbes. “We deal with the grosser side of parenting that no one prepares you for. We tackle problems not even your best friend will tell you about.”

Wildly successful – and helpful!

It’s a brilliant success story, with the company going from absolute strength to strength. The staff has jumped from 20 to 42 employees over the last 12 months and they are still hiring.

“FridaBaby is in more than 30,000 stores and over 1,000 doctor’s offices. Hirshhorn estimates that nearly 75 percent of babies born every year will have a NoseFrida used on them before they turn six months old,” Forbes reports. “With approximately 4 million babies born every year in the U.S. and 3 million snot suckers sold annually, her math adds up.  They also have a 22 percent purchase rate when the NoseFrida is added to a baby registry, well above the industry average.”

And all because of snot!

“We make the grossest products you’ll ever love,” Chelsea says.
