Content warning: This post discusses miscarriage.

Miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death support service SANDS tell us “up to 1 in 4 confirmed pregnancies end in miscarriage before 20 weeks, but many other women miscarry without having realised they are pregnant.”

Some very high-profile types have spoken out about enduring miscarriage, in the hopes that it might help others work through their own losses – and realise that this experience does not discriminate.

Broadcaster and performer Em Rusciano had a miscarriage in 2017 and shared some of her thoughts on enduring this heartbreak via Instagram.

“About 10 weeks ago I got the most wondrous surprise. I found out I was pregnant,” Em posted. “I was going to announce it ... as we’d hit 13 weeks, but instead I will be at home in the most exquisite pain I can possibly fathom. Yesterday I found out that my little boy, was lost to me.”

“I’m not sure I’m built to withstand this kind of heart break," she posted. "I’m not sure any mother is ... We named him Ray."
