The stressful reason dad-of-five Jamie Oliver says he’s a “weekend parent”
As Jamie Oliver and wife Jools navigate a very tricky time for the popular celebrity chef, the dad-of-five admitted it’s taking a toll when it comes to work-life balance.
“Weekend parent”
Jamie recently told Good Housekeeping he’s more of a “weekend parent” revealing the pressures of work mean he’s often not able to be around for his kids.
“I will get to the key school events but I’m flat out Monday to Friday and normally see the children a couple of nights during the week,” Jamie said, noting that it is what it is and everybody seems to be okay.
“I’m happy with that, I think they are fine with it,” said the possibly exhausted dad to 16-year-old Poppy, 15-year-old Daisy, 9-year-old Petal, 7-year-old Buddy and 22-month old River Rocket.
The Jamie’s Italian business he’s a stakeholder in is millions of pounds in debt and has been forced to close 12 of the restaurant’s 37 UK branches. Jamie told Hello it’s been a “dark time” for his gang and has obviously had his nose to the grindstone.
Hopefully, his new book, Jamie Cooks Italy, will play a part in reviving the struggling chain – and give Jamie some much-need R and R with his gang. And not just on weekends.

Kicking (relationship) goals
Jamie and Jools celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary a month or so ago, and the pair marked this special occasion by posting adorable tributes to each other on Instagram.
Jamie didn’t stop there, though. He came up with a super special gift, teaming up with UK label Seven Feet Apart to design a pair of cute high top sneakers in Jools’ honour.
Dubbed the JO-18 Sneaker, the kicks are a hat tip to Jools’ love of all things retro.
“Jools and I were about to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary and I had no idea what to give her,” Jamie explained on Seven Feet Apart’s site.
“We share an obsession for old school, vintage Hi tops and I thought how cool it would be to design a bespoke pair for her? After many discussions, sketches, mood boards and mentoring, here we are. I know she is going to love them.”
“To Jools – these are for you. Thank you for an incredible 18 years of marriage and here is to many, many more,” Jamie wrote.
