Prince George says he’s not REALLY called Prince George – and gosh how cute!

Posted in Family.

In a delightful new development, Prince George has let a very cute detail slip during a chatty encounter with a stranger who asked him his name.

A royal ramble

The Sun broke the story, painting a picture of a royal country ramble and the sort of mucking around that we love to imagine the smallest royals undertaking.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s five-year-old son was out with his grandmother Carole Middleton when a dog walker came across him playing with his younger sister Charlotte in a stream near the Middleton family home in Berkshire,” The Sun explained.

I guess by a ‘dog walker’, The Sun means a regular person walking their pet, but let’s not get into semantics.

“To my astonishment”

So … what happened was, the lady with a dog – who is choosing to remain anonymous – began chatting to the young royals and their granny.

Apparently they had security with them, and the lady was asked not to take any photos. Instead she had a lovely chinwag which seems much better than a photo.

“I was asked by a police minder not to take a photo of the children, which I didn’t,” the woman confirmed to the newspaper.

“But George started stroking my dog,” she explained. “Just to be friendly I engaged in a bit of small talk and I asked George what his name was, even though obviously I knew it.”

“To my astonishment he said ‘I’m called Archie’ with a big smile on his face. ”

“I think it’s lovely”

The woman figured George’s reveal could be a bit of make-believe and she was totally here for it.

“I don’t know why he calls himself Archie,” she continued, “but kids often play with their names and I think it’s lovely.”

I mean, perhaps he was simply making this stuff up. But also, perhaps this is a secret name the young prince’s family call him? Say it’s so because honestly we’re super-thirsty for cute royal secrets!

Apparently George is known as ‘PG’ at school – for Prince George. There are reports that his mum and dad riffed off these initials calling him ‘PG Tips’ after the famous British tea, and eventually shortening this to ‘Tips’.

Everybody needs a handful of nicknames, don’t they? Especially true if you are the future King of England, we think.
