“A wonderful distraction”

This profile comes hot on the heels of another reveal, where Kate spoke out about how conflicted she feels when sharing stories and pictures of Mae, ultimately deciding that she was keen to celebrate her little girl and stop being quite so private.

She’s opened up a little bit more to Stellar Magazine, chatting about growing her family, the relentless gossip that surrounds her marriage to Stuart and the bittersweet experience of saying goodbye to Sally, her beloved Home and Away character, once and for all.

The radio star, actor and mum-of-one says she’d love to give Mae some siblings, noting that her daughter would love some “little people” to look after, too. Kate said becoming a mum changed her life in unexpected ways, for the better.

“Having children is a wonderful distraction from yourself, and also opens up a brand-new world that is far greater than anything,” she explained.

“It doesn’t hurt my feelings”

When quizzed about the rumours that she and Stuart had secretly separated, Kate said this sort of negative chatter no longer takes a toll – and of course the rumours are simply not true.

“It doesn’t hurt my feelings, not anymore. I think in the old days it did. There’s no point in getting bogged down about what other people think is happening in my life.”

“The only positive in having the magazines write about my love life is that I know the Hewitts are getting a week off,” she said, revealing that she and her pal, Bec Hewitt, joke about the tabloid treatment together.

“It’s me this week! They got you in your tracksuit, did they?”

Sally can wait

Kate said that she struggled to emerge from the shadow of her character, Sally Fletcher, but eventually realised her perspective was a little skewed.

“As long as I can remember, Sally Fletcher brought so many wonderful things to my life. People wanted to meet me because of Sally, or I won awards because of Sally, or I was invited to great events because of Sally.”

“What I realised is, ‘No, Kate brought wonderful things to my life.’ I had to finally realise Sally was a result of me, not the other way around.”
