Drew Barrymore just shared a sweet update about her daughters and family life
Mother’s Day has got many of us feeling nostalgic and emotional, and mum-of-two Drew Barrymore is no exception.
- Drew Barrymore is mum to two girls, 5-year-old Frankie and 7-year-old Olive
- Drew heads up her own successful cosmetics company, Flower Beauty
- Drew says she struggled after divorcing hubby Will Kopelman in 2016
- After a traumatic childhood, Drew is raising her own kids very carefully
- Drew is godmother to Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s daughter, Frances Bean
“My girls”
Drew posted a belated Mother’s Day update overnight, sharing a photo of her tiny girls riding a very big horse together.
“My girls,” she captioned the image. “I try not to post them (protective mom) but Mother’s Day feels strange without it. So here is a pic of them many years ago. But I love it because they are together !!!! I love when we are all together!”
Drew’s update was about more than Frankie and Olive, and being a mum though – as brilliant as both those things are. It was really about how tolerance, compassion and self-acceptance are the key to a fulfilling life. About how coming together as a family can be a delicate balance, but is actually – in her case – achievable and utterly rewarding.
A rough start
It’s clear that these simple, family-oriented times mean a lot to the Santa Clarita Diet star, who had a tumultuous childhood herself.
Drew was seven years old when she starred as Gertie in the Spielberg classic ET. Childhood struggles with alcohol and drugs followed, with rehab at 14, emancipation from her mother and her own apartment at 15.
Drew went on to forge a successful acting career before creating her own production company and then beauty co, Flower Beauty.
“I love this day”
In the wake those tricky early years Drew’s counting her lucky stars, taking none of it for granted and is determined to give her girls a much more stable upbringing.
“They are my entire world and I love this day,” Drew wrote on Instagram. “Never did I think I would have such a full family. The dream came true. And like all dreams, they are perfectly imperfect! As long as you can be yourself. And celebrate everyone for who they really are!”
“That’s what Mother’s Day means to me! Everyone gets to be themselves and loved all at the same time!”
We love this spin on Mother’s Day and it’s really all any of us could ask for. Thanks for the perspective shift, DB!
