Courteney Cox reveals her 13-year-old taught her a brilliant life lesson
Kids have a way of challenging us and spouting wisdom like little truth-tellers, so it’s no surprise that Courteney Cox’s daughter is teaching her a thing or two.
Don’t take it personally
Thirteen-year-old Coco (whose dad is Courteney’s ex-husband, David Arquette) says her mum has taught her plenty of important things – like how to regulate stress and be a strong woman. But it seems the life lessons go both ways for this mum and daughter duo. Mum-of-one Courtney says some instruction on perspective, resilience and confidence from Coco has proven invaluable.
“Probably one of the biggest things she’s taught me is to not take things personally, because really it’s not about us,” Courteney told People Magazine’s The Beautiful Issue.
“Whatever moods that she goes through where things happen, I’m the safest place to be able to take it out on. It’s never about me, unless it’s actually about me.”

“We’re very close”
The former Friends star says her teenage daughter is often tight-lipped about her life, the contrast to her own childhood proving to be a steep learning curve.
“I want her to tell me everything, and she doesn’t want to tell me anything … Exactly the opposite of the childhood I had,” Courteney says.
“We bicker, let’s be honest, but we love each other. We laugh a lot, for sure.”
Coco has her own thoughts on what she sees as a pretty typical mother-daughter dynamic.
“I would also describe it as, well, I am a 13-year-old girl, you are a mom, so I love you, but of course we’re gonna get in fights. But we’re very close. Very close. I love you a lot.”
Courteney (aka Monica Gellar) and David Arquette married in 1999 and divorced in 2013, but remain firm friends and business partners.
The Malibu-based mum is now engaged to Snow Patrol band member, Johnny McDaid with the pair reportedly house-hunting together in Ireland recently.
