Children meeting their baby siblings for the first time is a big deal and can be so cute, but this video of a little girl being introduced to her newborn sister after 16 long days in the hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is completely NEXT LEVEL on the emotional front.

Hello baby

The video, posted by People on their Instagram several days ago, starts with a little girl and boy arriving home from school only to quickly discover there is someone else in the house – their gorgeous new baby sister! Until that second, they hadn’t met their newborn sibling as she had previously spent more than two weeks in the NICU unit, and luckily her parents whipped out the camera to capture this precious moment.

All the feels

The little boy seems quite stunned and amazed to find their baby at home, asking why she’s there, but it’s his other sister whose reaction totally takes the cake. Overwhelmed by emotion and unable to speak, she holds her hands to her chest and nods in answer to questions about whether she’s happy, loves her baby sister and wants to hold her.

WARNING: The moment when she holds her baby sister and the tears of joy roll down her face will have you reaching for the tissues BIG TIME. Awwwww!!!

Tears keep on flowing

And it appears that the rest of the world has been touched by this little girl’s emotions too (how could you not?!). The video has already garnered over 150,000 likes and hundreds of comments such as:

I’m bawling!

Chills. This is amazing and so sweet.

Best sister in the world!

I’m not crying, you’re crying!

And our personal favourite: I AM DEAD.

Germophobes

However, a couple of party-pooper ‘well-wishers’ were quick to point out that the little girl didn’t wash her hands before holding her baby sister – something which can be important for premature babies who have been intensive care as they’re more susceptible to infections. Presumably, the sister had come straight from school or where there were other children and most likely germs (as she had her bag on initially), and YES in hindsight she should have washed her hands. BUT we’re assuming her newborn sister was well on her way to thriving (being allowed to come home after all), and with several siblings already living in that house, germs are probably kind of inevitable.

Plus let’s face it, what mother would have stopped that beautiful moment happening?! You can’t kill these emotions people!

Congratulations to this new big sister and her family on the safe arrival home of their new bundle of joy!
