It’s a scenario none of us wants to imagine, but unfortunately, traffic accidents involving children are common.

A paramedic has appealed to parents worldwide to make one simple change that could save their child’s life.

One paramedic shared her message on social media

An American paramedic by the name of Kaitlyn has shared this incredibly useful idea to help parents communicate information about their child should they arrive at an accident or emergency scene.

“Way too often do emergency crew come upon a car wreck with children in the car who are too young to have any information and parents are unconscious,” Kaitlyn posted on social media.

To help avoid this, she suggested parents write a short list with the following information about their child. Then pin it to the back of their child’s car seat:

  • Child’s full name
  • Date of birth
  • Parents’ names
  • Emergency contact phone numbers
  • Any pre-existing medical conditions/allergies
  • Child’s GP information

Some folks have pointed out that there is no guarantee for paramedics that the child in the seat is the same child on your information card. So we suggest also adding your little one’s photo to the card, so it is easy to see if it is the correct child.

The list helps emergency workers make contact quickly

The information will help emergency workers quickly ascertain any additional needs of the injured child. They’ll also be able to swiftly make contact with the child’s guardian should there be the need to make a phone call.

This small effort is enough to make a big impact on the outcome of an emergency scene.

As Kaitlyn says: “It takes two minutes … and can help save your child’s life.”

It’d be hard to find a reason more compelling than that.
