Super easy ham and cheese scrolls recipe
My kids love ham and cheese but if there’s one thing that will boomerang its way back home again, it’s a ham and cheese sandwich. An awesome solution – same ingredients, different carrier – I give you ham and cheese scrolls!
Yeah, they’re rustic looking – but I assure you they’re super quick to make and so delicious they’ll be gobbled up in no time. Make the dough in your food processor in a few quick whizzes or alternatively, by hand.
- Prep time : 15 mins
- Cooking time : 15 mins
Ham and cheese scrolls ingredients
- 40g butter, cubed
- 2 cups self-raising flour
- ¾ cup milk + a couple of tablespoons extra for milk wash
- ¼ cup pizza sauce
- 100g thin sliced or shaved ham
- 1 cup grated Colby cheese
- poppy seeds
Method
- Preheat oven to 200°C. Line a baking tray with greaseproof baking paper.
- Into a food processor, tip the flour and butter. Whiz for a few seconds until the mix resembles fine bread crumbs.
- Add the milk and whiz until the mixture starts to ball together into a dough.
- Tip the mixture out onto a floured or lightly greased surface and knead until smooth. Roll out into a long rectangular shape, about a centimetre thick.
- Spread the dough rectangle with pizza sauce. Layer with ham slices and top with grated cheese.
- Gently roll the rectangle onto itself from the long edge.
- Cut slices three centimetres thick, laying them cut side up on the prepared tray, a few centimetres apart from each other.
- Brush the tops and sides of each scroll with milk and top with a sprinkle of poppy seeds.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden in colour. Leave on a wire rack to cool – though I also highly recommend eating them warm. YUM!
