Christmas cookie mix in a jar recipe
A clever little DIY, cookie mix jars are a fantastic gift to say thanks to neighbours, teachers, carers – all the people you appreciate throughout the year. You make it, they bake it!
- Makes : 1
- Prep time : 30 mins
Christmas cookie mix in a jar ingredients
- ½ cup plain flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons Uncle Tobys Traditional Oats
- 4 heaped tablespoons red and green M&Ms
Method
You will need brand new jars with secure fitting lids for this activity. I’ve used a 300ml capacity jar for this recipe which yields 10 biscuits. If you have a bigger jar, double the recipe accordingly (and don’t forget to double the wet ingredients on the recipe card).
- Into a 300ml capacity jar and levelling out each layer, add the flour, salt and baking powder, then the brown sugar. Pack it in firmly with the back of a spoon, paying attention to how it looks from the outside of the jar.
- Add oats and squeeze the M&Ms in on top, right up to the mouth of the jar. You want it packed tight so nothing moves. Screw the lid on firmly.
- The recipient of your jar gift will need instructions to bake your delicious biscuits! Write a recipe method note or card with these instructions: “Preheat oven to 175°C. Combine 50g of soft butter, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 egg in a small bowl. Remove M&Ms from the jar and set aside. In a bowl, stir the combined wet ingredients into these dry ingredients until evenly combined. Fold in M&Ms. Roll 10 small balls of dough and place them 5cm apart on a baking tray. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.”
- Decorate the jar in whatever festive manner you fancy. I’ve used Christmas themed paper, baker’s twine and a whole lot of double sided tape to pretty up my jars.
