Singer Missy Higgins is currently supporting Ed Sheeran’s Australian tour, and she took this very high profile opportunity to let fans know she’s expecting baby number two!

“I’m expecting!”

Performing in Perth ahead of this very famous headliner, Missy admitted the bump she was sporting had nothing to do with doughnuts and everything to do with growing human beings!

Missy – who is already mum to three-year-old Samuel – broke the news with a sweet story describing the first time she met her fiancé Dan Lee.

“I was sitting in my good friend’s living room on his futon couch where my soon-to-be husband walked in the room and I was like ‘Hello, who are you?'” she told the assembled audience. “I wanted to write a song that kind of put the day I met Dan into a song so I could play it for our children. And on that note, I’d like to tell you guys that I’m expecting.”

“This is the first time I’ve ever said it publicly,” Missy said. “So there you go! That’s what this little bump’s doing down here!”

(While we’ve got a sneaky excuse to talk about Ed Sheeran, note that the star has apparently applied for planning permits so he can build his own private chapel for his upcoming nuptials to long-time girlfriend Cherry Seaborn. So romantic, non?!  Also, statistically 1 in 23 Australians have been to an Ed Sheeran gig! Gasp!)

PND battle

Last year Missy – who is also a very firm favourite with Australians – spoke a little about her experience of motherhood so far, and how an early struggle with postnatal depression (PND) affected her.

“I think when it happened I knew it had come and I knew I had to ride it out,” Missy revealed.

“I had a lot of support. My husband was very knowledgeable about what to expect as well so he just supported me through it. My hormones were all over the place – but I think not having so much down time now has been really good for me.”

The soon to be mum-of-two says becoming a mother completely shifted her perspective, sometimes in quite overwhelming ways.

“I’ve become quite aware of death in a weird way since having a child,” she admitted. “I tend to get fixated on things. I became quite fixated on the Apocalypse and death and all these slightly macabre topics. They’ve all channelled their way into my songs – I think whenever you give birth to the next generation your mortality becomes apparent all of a sudden.”
