The sentimental gift Duchess Meghan says she’s saving for her baby girl
There’s been speculation about Meghan and Harry’s future kids since before they’d even tied the knot, and it seems that the Duchess herself has been in on the whole hypothetical kid chatter – for quite some time.
“I had it engraved”
In an interview with Hello Magazine back in 2015, Meghan revealed she’s already acquired a very special piece which she plans to gift to her future daughter.
The former Suits star has gone from Rachel to royalty in the interim and says a $10 000 Cartier French Tank watch she gifted herself is particularly sentimental – and an heirloom-to-be.
“I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch. When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season — which, at the time, felt like such a milestone — I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version.”
“I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ and I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.”
The Cartier Tank was favoured by another member of the royal family – Harry’s mum, the late Princess Diana.

Planning ahead
Meghan and Harry have already teased that they hope to be parents at some point. While visiting Northern Ireland back in March, the pair chatted to Sinead and Adam Murphy about the nursery products they manufacture. Looking over a Moses basket, change mat and non-slip, sit-up baby bath, Meghan said, “I am sure at one point we will need the whole thing. It’s very sweet.”
Royal expert Katie Nicholl recently told ET, “My sources are saying that Prince Harry, particularly, is very keen to start a family, pretty soon after the royal wedding. He’s made no secret about wanting children.” Meghan’s friendship with sister-in-law Kate has apparently confirmed that it’s possible to raise a royal family with plenty of time away from the media spotlight.
Of course, it’s not really much of our business whether this cute couple have babies or not, but it’s very clear that becoming parents is a priority to both of them – and that at one point or another they might just be sharing baby news! (And passing on Meghan’s specky watch.)
