The real reasons why Meghan and Harry are moving away from Wills and Kate

After much ridiculous chatter about a Meghan and Kate rift fuelling the Harry and Meg’s move away from Kensington Palace, more details have emerged on the practical reasons behind this shift. (And they’ve got nothing to do with made-up squabbling!)

Escape to the country

Some are lamenting the “Fab Four” of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan going their separate ways, but it’s for very good reason and they’re destined to settle into some brilliant new digs.

The pair are headed to the lovely Frogmore Cottage at Windsor, the home just down the road from the more stately Frogmore House where they held their evening wedding reception.

Frogmore House and Cottage are a short distance from Windsor Castle and were built in the 1680s.

Meghan and Harry were married nearby at Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel and they’re returning to the ‘hood to take up residence in the home that was a wedding gift from the Queen.

The couple had been living at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace since their engagement. It’s a two-bedroom home that doesn’t provide much room to move if you consider there’s a baby on the way (and plans for more, from all accounts). There’s also royal nannies and visits from Meghan’s mum to factor in too.

Combine all that with reports that the pair really wants to keep their child/ren out of the spotlight and give them as “normal” an upbringing as possible and retreating from busy London and the lurking public/paparazzi makes a lot of sense. (As you probably know, Meg and Harry’s first child is due in the UK Spring.)

“A very special place”

Kensington Palace made the news official over the weekend, releasing a short missive about the impending move.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will move to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate early next year as they prepare for the arrival of their first child,” a palace statement explained.

“Windsor is a very special place for Their Royal Highnesses and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate. The Duke and Duchess’s official office will continue to be based at Kensington Palace.”

Frogmore cottage move statement from Palace

The cottage is reportedly currently split into five units as home to the palace staff, but it’s set to undergo renovations ahead of the royal couple’s move early next year. The Sun says that a nursery, gym and yoga studio are part of the upgrade.

Here’s what it looks like – a little less grand than Frogmore House, admittedly, but still lovely …

“Frogmore, which is inside the Windsor security zone [where the main house is only open to the public for a couple of days a year] is secluded, peaceful, tranquil and, most importantly, private. No one will see them coming or going,” The Sun reports.
